The Scavenger Hunt: A Little Witch Tale for the Waning Moon

Once upon a waning moon, Little Witch wondered aloud:

“Where does magick live when the world turns frosty and cold?”

“Don’t you know?” said one of the fairies as she added a few sticks to the fire. A chorus of flames hissed and popped as the stone cottage neared the perfect level of coziness. “It moves indoors to brighten up the house, keep us safe, and warm the heart of our home.”

“It also burrows into the earth,” said another fairy, “and creates cozy dens for the rabbits, bears, and other resting woodland creatures.”

“I’ve even seen it in the trees,” announced the smallest fairy of the bunch. She was perched upon the mantel, feeling the warmth on her toes. “That’s why the beaver is out right now collecting limbs and leaves—to ensure he has enough magick to keep him cozy during winter.”

Little Witch pondered where else magick might be hiding as her grimoire began filling out the current page: Magick & the Elements. While the grimoire crossed its t’s and dotted its i’s, Little Witch put on her stockings and laced up her boots. The autumn air was crisp and the days were getting shorter, but everyone agreed there was time for one final adventure: a scavenger hunt! When Little Witch announced her plan, Mother looked up from her latest story and smiled. She’d been writing in her favorite chair, but promptly stood and disappeared into the kitchen at Little Witch’s declaration. She reappeared moments later, thermos in hand, and shooed the fairies toward the door.
